The Mathrusri Ramabai Ambedkar Dental College & Hospital was started in the year 1986 by the Ananda Social and Educational Trust, with the twin objectives of providing quality dental education and health care services to the financially weaker and socially down trodden section of the society. The institution has excellent teaching faculties with best student and staff ratio and still does it, which is the strength of the institution. The College is situated in the heart of the City in a residential area there has been very good patient inflow providing more than adequate clinical material, attracting many students from various parts of the Country and abroad. Thus, Ambedkar Dental College became one of the premiere institutions in India.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Medical College & Hospital and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Nursing at Kadugondanahalli, Bangalore are the two sister institutions under the same Trust.

The college is Recognized by Dental Council of India, New Delhi and Affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.

At present, the institution has total sanctioned intake of 100 seats in BDS course and 38 seats in MDS Courses in all the nine Dental Specialities (Oral Medicine-03 seats, Oral Surgery-05 seats, Conservative Dentistry- 05 seats, Periodontics - 06 seats, Prosthodontics - 06 seats, Pedodontics - 03 seats, Orthodontics- 06 seats, Public Health Dentistry- 02 seats and Oral Pathology-02 seats).

The institution also offers Fellowship Courses in Implant Dentistry and Aesthetic Dentistry with 04 seats in each courses.

The college is a Recognized Ph.D Centre in the specialities of Periodontology, Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, Prosthodontics & Crown & Bridge, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Pathology & Microbiology and is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.
